THE 405 CLUB IDEABLOB: VOTE FOR THE TWANKET.
Since our inception The 405 Club has heavily promoted entrepreneurial thinking. In an earlier post we’ve humorously documented how “Unemployment Breeds Entrepreneurship” by posting a picture of a man selling snowballs for a dollar, but in reality it is true. Many successful businesses have started during times of unemployment, ie. FedEx.
A recent New York Times article highlighted a new kind of social network for entrepreneurs, helping to promote sharing and development of small-business ideas, called Idea Blob. The posted idea that gets the most public votes wins $10,000.
Ideablob is owned by the Advanta Corporation, which spun off the unit in 2007 as a project of Mr. Kassar’s innovation department. Yes, that Advanta: the big issuer of credit cards to small businesses, based outside Philadelphia in Spring House, Pa., that recently entered lockdown mode.
As self-proclaimed entrepreneurs at The 405 Club, we decided to go for a test run on Ideablob where we’ve submitted an idea entry for “The Twanket”, a blanket sized towel. It seems like a pretty simple idea, but so is the Snuggie and they’re swimming in cash now. I mean really, the Snuggie is a backwards robe!
May this post serve 2 purposes.
- A reminder to think like an entrepreneur. Maybe it’s time to start your own business? You can then share and have your ideas critiqued by your peers on Ideablob.
- Please appease my shameful plug by taking a moment to vote for The Twanket by clicking [here]. Perhaps a little Digg/Reddit/Retweet below? You are the best.
