SUNDAY BLOG BRUNCH: MISS PINK SLIP.

sunday blog brunch(Ed.Note) Welcome to our journey into the world of recession blogs! The 405 Club wants to get personal via a handful of questions with our favorite fellow bloggers who are documenting the recession and unemployment firsthand.

This week’s blogging brunch companion is Miss Pink Slip!

Before we chat about the blog, what will you be having for brunch?

* Mmmm…egg white omelet with Swiss cheese, tomato, spinach and ham; biscuit (hey—it’s the South) and a Mimosa!

1. When were you laid off and what did you do? Or are you employed/self-employed? If so, what do you do now?

* I was laid off in January 2009 due to lack of work for my PR accounts. Lots of budget cuts. I got VERY lucky and joined a new company in March. I now work in broadcast media.

2. When and why did you start your site?

* While job hunting, I realized quickly during the freezing cold January-February months that if you don’t laugh, you’ll cry. There was nothing out there online that addressed my situation in a light-hearted way. Everything was dorky, bland, corporate and cold. So I established Miss Pink Slip (www.misspinkslip.com), a space where people could look at pink slips through the eyes of pop culture and laugh while also getting some helpful tips on living through this crappy time.

3. What is your motivation to continue blogging and/or running the site?

* People are actually reading it. Who knew!? Plus, I still have many friends seeking jobs so I still have a close perspective. It’s fun, too!

4. Do you think blogging or running your site helped you find your job or keep your job?

* Blogging didn’t help me find a job (in fact, they don’t know I have a blog…), but it did greatly increase my use of social media which has been invaluable in my new role!

5. What do you want to do next professionally?

* I want to write, which I don’t necessarily get to do in my new job. I am grateful for this work, but the current job is certainly not what I was searching for. However, I’ve learned a tremendous amount of new skills and know it’s a jumping point for something else in the future. I couldn’t be luckier.

6. How has your blog changed since rejoining the workforce?)

* It has changed a little in that I’m sharing tips that I know now actually work! The feel of the blog certainly hasn’t shifted, though. It’s still fun, snarky and an intended break from the monotony of the job search.

7. What’s new at your site and where does it go from here?

* Not sure where it’s going from here. Any ideas? :)

Ummm, prizes and contests for the unemployed are always good!

Any final thoughts or words of wisdom for members of The 405 Club?

* Keep calm and carry on (yeah…just like that ubiquitious British poster).

Last but certainly not least, what is your favorite series/feature on The 405 Club?

* Oh, I have to say the Recession Casual-Tees!

Thanks so much for joining us - that brunch sure was delicious! Think you can grab me a biscuit before we go?!
