SUNDAY BLOG BRUNCH: NO JOB SURVIVOR.

sunday blog brunch 405 club(Ed.Note) Welcome to our journey into the world of recession blogs! The 405 Club wants to get personal via a handful of questions with our favorite fellow bloggers who are documenting the recession and unemployment firsthand.

This week’s blogging brunch companions are from nojobsurvivor!

——-

Before we chat about the blog, what will you be having for brunch?

* Scrambled eggs and hot coffee.

1. When were you laid off and what did you do? Or are you employed/self-employed? If so, what do you do now?

* Both laid off in 2008 Nan in San Francisco: worked for a social service agency, now collect UI, run the site, volunteer, write, swim, photograph David in Santa Fe: Worked for a search engine company and now photography, build websites, and nojobsurvivor.

2. When and why did you start your site?

* Started the site in November 2009. We wanted to be at the pulse of the worldwide crisis.

3. What is your motivation to continue blogging and/or running the site?

* It’s important to have an alternative to mainstream, crap media. And, to give people alternatives to the gloom and doom, and to spread some hope!

4. Do you think blogging or running your site will help you find a job?

* No, we’re hoping it will help us NOT get jobs! (Although this is work.)
David: I think i work harder now for no paycheck than I ever did for a salary.

5. What do you want to do next professionally?

* Nan in San Francisco: Spank bankers, insurance lobbyists and CEOs with a giant paddle, in public.
David in Santa Fe: Evolving to a much more active and radical with regards to our constipated politics in this country.

6. How will your blog change when you rejoin the workforce?

* Nan in San Francisco: If I was that kind of a prognosticator, I’d probably have a job.
David in Santa Fe: I am determined to continue the site. Unemployment will be with us for years and many of the issues, will continue, such as health care, money in politics, global warming and on it goes.

7. What’s new at your site and where does it go from here?

* Soon to have more congressional updates and entrepreneurial information.
We let it flow where the unemployed/underemployed people need it most.

Bonus Questions: Any final thoughts or words of wisdom for members of The 405 Club?

* Go see Michael Moore’s new film (I had the privilege of a pre-screening here in SF), get active! Don’t let the bankers and insurance companies and doctors beat you up! Fight back! There is hope. Life is Still Good! And, go volunteer!

Last but certainly not least, what is your favorite series/feature on The 405 Club?

* Everything! It’s a good, clean place for laid-off New Yorkers!
