FrugalNYC

What to do?! Nothing Beats Free Indoor Winter Entertainment.

(Ed. Note) It’s no secret that the unemployed like to or have to save money where they can.  As such an important component of our lifestyle it was only right to team up with FrugalNYC, a premier resource for frugal city living, as we present Frugal Fridays! Enjoy.

It’s cold out there.  Winter is here to stay, so I’m sure you are looking for indoor activities more than outdoor activities.  If you love the outdoors, you can always ice skate for free at The Pond at Bryant Park.  If you are looking for something to do away from the cold, I have a suggestion that may pique your interest.

While in elementary school, I was fascinated by science.  I wanted to be a scientist at one point, and perhaps one day I may explore that once again.  For now, I can relive my childhood at the New York Hall of Science - for FREE!

ny science 405 clubFrom September through June, you can get in free on Fridays from 2 - 5 PM and Sundays from 10 - 11 AM.  If you visit during other times, you can find pricing on the NYSCI website.  So what will you find there?  There is something for everyone.  Young children and older adults will all find something to explore and enjoy.  There are over 450 hands-on exhibits at the New York Hall of Science.  All of the exhibits invite you the touch, explore, and manipulate them.  From jumping and climbing to building models or exploring computer simulations, there is something for everyone.

Some of my favorite exhibits are the miniature twister, human sized bubble blowing and the sealed algae / sea-monkey ecosystem (not the official name).  There are sports exhibits that measure your pitching speed and virtual arm wrestling over the web!  The kids will love the light related exhibits where you can make all kinds of patterns on a huge screens.

The Hall of Science is located at:

47-01 111th Street

Queens, NY 11368

718-699-0005

Located in Flushing Meadows Corona Park

You can get there via Train, bus or car.  Find directions from the NYSCI website.

If you have a low entertainment budget, get out to the New York Hall of Science on Friday afternoons this winter!  You might see me there.

Do you have any free or low cost indoor Winter activities you’d like to share?
