Go onto www.labor.state.ny.us and continue to certify each week even after that remaining balance amount is used up, to see if you are entitled to any further extensions benefits. There is a section, Frequently Asked Questions, and an expanded section on Extension of Benefits. Don’t stop certifying each week—meaning don’t stop logging onto the labor site and reporting on the labor site—because when that remaining balance amount is used up, you posibly could be eligible for more money, as rules keep changing and IF extensions are voted in by government. Of course that is not a definite. Continue to certify each week. As reported by a labor rep, new unemployment claims initiated up to April 6th of 2009 are entitled to 60 weeks of benefits and those begun from April 13th 2009, 46 weeks. Any information provided verbally is given to the best of an individual’s knowledge and is subject to error. Read the handbook sent to you by postal mail at the beginning of your claim, know the labor site sections, and refer to the automated phone number below, if you are unclear. As with everything else and the protracted periods of unemployment, dislocated and laid off workers should continue to report beyond any end dates and dollar amount balances listed on their payment history page.
Read your labor site through very thoroughly and don’t hesitate to call the automated free NYS service number at 1-888-209-8124. Because each person’s situation is different, it is always advisable to read through the labor site sections and call the NYS automated number for inquiries on specific claims status. It always helps to speak to a live person and refer directly to your personal claim.
Hope this helps and best of luck!
