Sunday Blog Brunch: My Unemployed Journey.

(Ed.Note) Welcome to our journey into the world of recession blogs! The 405 Club wants to get personal via a handful of questions with our favorite fellow bloggers who are documenting the recession and unemployment firsthand.

Joining us today is a father of 3 who was handed his first pink slip after 25 years of work, now the author of My Unemployed Journey.

…………………

Before we chat about the blog, what will you be having for brunch?

* Huevos Rancheros

1. When were you laid off and what did you do?

* I am/was a TV Producer. I have worked in the industry since I was a freshman in college, winning five Emmy Awards.

2. When and why did you start your site?

* I started writing my blog in January 2010 after seeing Julie & Julia. As I said in my first blog, I’m not sure that movie will ever make its way into my DVD player again, but it definitely inspired me to write.  After being out of work for more than a year, I was motivated by the opportunity to speak my mind.  At first, the reward was just the opportunity to write but after connecting with so many people in similar situations, the reward has been sharing our stories.

3. What is your motivation to continue blogging and/or running the site?

* Hearing from so many people that I have never met has truly inspired me to keep going.

I have truly gained an appreciation for writing and I am very proud of how I can tell a story.

4. Do you think blogging or running your site will help you find a job?

* Right or wrong, I have tried to keep the blog and my search for employment separate.

My father was a very private person and I think that has rubbed off on me, which is why I use a nickname as my byline.

If a job comes through a contact made from the blog, I would certainly be fine with that, but in some way I hope a job comes from the way I write my blog. 5. What do you want to do next professionally? (if you have a job, was this job what you had in mind when searching while unemployed?) * I have really enjoyed writing the blog.

At this point, I don’t see how I can turn this into a job, but I certainly plan on continuing my writing no matter where I end up.

I love being creative. I love making a great product.

If that means returning to TV, that would certainly be great, but I am open to any job that would make me happy.

6. How will your blog change when you rejoin the workforce?

* That is a question I have asked myself many times.

I know that I want to continue writing after a get a job.

I don’t know that “my journey through unemployment” will work when I am employed, so that’s where I will have to be creative.

7. What’s new at your site and where does it go from here?

* I have received a tremendous amount of interaction from the followers of my blog.

I would like to see more discussion amongst the group.

With so many people out there in situations like mine, it would be great to increase the support system to keep people moving forward.

Bonus Questions: Any final thoughts or words of wisdom for members of The 405 Club?

* I have learned through my 15 months of being out of a job that it is important to be positive, but go with your feelings.

Not every day is going to be a good one, but hang in there and recognize the many positives in your life.

If you are going to spend your time thinking of the bad things, take a little time to think about the good things too.

There are a lot of people out there who feel exactly like you do.

Hang in there.

Last but certainly not least, what is your favorite series/feature on The 405 Club?

* The Sunday Blog Brunch!

We enjoy the brunch as well - thanks so much for joining us today!
