Sunday Blog Brunch: Unemployed & Over 50.
(Ed.Note) Welcome to our journey into the world of recession blogs! The 405 Club wants to get personal via a handful of questions with our favorite fellow bloggers who are documenting the recession and unemployment firsthand.
Today we have the pleasure of sitting with the man behind Unemployed & Over 50.
…………
Before we chat about the blog, what will you be having for brunch?
* I’ll just have a burger please.
1. So let’s get to it. When were you laid off and what did you do? Or are you employed/self-employed? If so, what do you do now?
* I am still among the fortunate, the employed.
2. When and why did you start your site?
* The company that I work for as been laying off people on a regular basis for the past few years. I believe that it is only a matter of time before my number is called.
Blogging is a wonderful way to not only communicate but also to research any thing that you are blogging about. Since unemployment is on the horizon for me I thought that I would go ahead and start my blog Unemployed and Over Fifty.
3. What is your motivation to continue blogging and/or running the site?
* I love to write and I love to do the research for this blog and my other blogs.
4. Do you think blogging or running your site helps the unemployed find jobs?
* I think that blogging about employment is a great way to look for a job. You find so much information and you have the opportunity to meet other people in the same situation as you are.
5. What do you want to do next professionally?
* I really don’t know at this point. I have had some health issues in the past year and they may factor in to whatever future plans that I may have.
6. How will your blog change if your employment status changes?
* No I won’t change anything. I post about job opportunties, especially for older workers and I try to post about the emotional aspects of being unemployed.
7. What’s new at your site and where does it go from here?
* The only change that I perceive in the future is to move the blog to a hosted server instead of blogger.
Bonus Questions: Any final thoughts or words of wisdom for members of The 405 Club?
* If you are reading blogs and sites like the 405 Club you are ahead of the game. Stay positive, don’t listen to any negative talk disguised as frank advice. Stay healthy, and don’t give up.
Thanks for the kinds words there. Last but certainly not least, what is your favorite series/feature on The 405 Club?
* There are so many great features listed that I don’t where to start! I am elated to find out about the 405 club via The Sunday Blog Brunch!
We were elated to stumble upon your blog as well. We had touched upon ageism for older unemployed workers in one of our posts “Too Young To Retire, Too Old To Work“ back in July of 2009 - be sure to check it out.
Thanks for joining us and sharing your knowledge of jobs for workers over 50!
