Sunday Blog Brunch: Diary of An Unemployed MBA.

405 club sunday blog brunch(Ed.Note) Welcome to our journey into the world of recession blogs! The 405 Club wants to get personal via a handful of questions with our favorite fellow bloggers who are documenting the recession and unemployment firsthand.

Today we have the pleasure of sitting with the creator of Diary of An Unemployed MBA.

…………

Before we chat about the blog, what will you be having for brunch?

* Crabcake benedict. My favorite.

1. When were you laid off and what did you do? Or are you employed/self-employed? If so, what do you do now?

* I was laid off first in Sept 2008. I was a Strategist at The Groop, a boutique marketing agency. More recently, I quit my job in January when I was doing Marketing for an online video game company.

2. Tell everyone the name of your site, where they can find it, then when and why you started your site.

* I started www.diaryofanunemployedmba.blogspot.com because I was basically sick of everyone asking me how my job search was going and if I’m “even looking for work.” I’ve always liked to write, and I thought that having a blog would give me an outlet to do it while letting my friends and family know what I’m up.

3. What is your motivation to continue blogging and/or running the site?

* My blog has really become an outlet for me to vent about things regarding my job search and for my friends to know what I’m going through without me having to repeat it each time I talk to someone.

4. Do you think blogging or running your site will help you find a job?

* Probably not. Although I’ve learned a little about HTML, SEM Marketing, and Google Analytics and Adsense, I haven’t been using it to promote my skills to potential employers. In fact, it’s not on my resume and I’ve never told a prospective employer about my blog.

5. What do you want to do next professionally?

* I would love to work in the marketing department of a progressive company with a product that I can relate with in an industry that hasn’t met its growth potential.

6. How will your blog change when you rejoin the workforce?

* Well, since I started the blog, I did re-join the workforce once and I stopped blogging altogether. The main reasons that it was at a complete standstill were 1. My blog is all about me being unemployed so it wouldn’t make sense for me to continue it while working and 2. Because the hours at the job were a little unpredictable and I didn’t have the time to blog. However, I really do enjoy it and am thinking about starting a lifestyle blog - in the event that I’m offered a full-time job, hopefully I’ll still be able to write about Californian/suburban lifestyles.

7. What’s new at your site and where does it go from here?

* I haven’t decided yet.

Bonus Questions: Any final thoughts or words of wisdom for members of The 405 Club?

* I love your site! I didn’t know about it until Garrett contacted me through my blog, but I was reading it last night and this morning and was inspired that the posts, the people in the “about us” section, and the idea that there are so many people out there who are in the same position as me and can relate. I like the fact that your site infuses a bit of humor into the writing, because let’s face it…lining up in the unemployment line to collect your check is not the most pleasant life experience.

Last but certainly not least, what is your favorite series/feature on The 405 Club?

* Honestly, since I just started reading the site last night, I can’t say that I have a favorite yet…but if I’m featured on Sunday Blog Brunch, that would become my new favorite! :)
