Resume Tips:

1). In your header (name, address, cell & home phone), make sure that all of these items are up to date and correct. Too often, a deserving candidate get shut out because he/she can’t be contacted.

2). Use professional sounding email address. If you don’t have one, get one! They are readily available and free.

3). Make sure that your margins are one (1) inch all the way around the paper. This ensures a nice neat border all around the paper.

4). Use Times New Roman or Arial font in a 12 point size. These are the ones recommended by most major professional corporations.

5). Use a good quality paper - white or a light cream in color. Again, we are going for the professional look.

6). Target your job objective to the posting itself. Use keywords from the advertisement in this part.

7). Include any colleges and the dates attended along with any awards garnered while there.

8). List all relevant job experience, this could be part time or volunteer work is the skills are relevant.

9). List any skills or military clearances if there is time. Many employers are seeking veterans to employ in a variety of positions.

10). Use spell check on your word processor. But make sure to also have your resume read by 2 humans. These could be a mentor or teacher. Just as long as it is somebody you trust.
