I went to a Job Fair… and all I got was this lousy T-shirt!

A friend of mine, who knows I’ve been unemployed for over two years, convinced me to attend a job fair being held in New York on April 12th. I had heard of job fairs, seen photos in the news of crowds of people lined up outside exhibit halls waiting to get in, but had never been to one.
I had major reservations. I likened these fairs to speed-dating, where a potential date looks you over, makes up his mind in just seven minutes, and then moves on to the next target. Can you accurately assess someone in just a few minutes’ time? Not in my book! But, nearing the end of my benefit extensions, I felt I had no choice but to attend the event. Especially since it was being sponsored by the AARP; I assumed there’d be employers represented who were willing to hire someone over 50 – like me.
