You can also file on the phone (who does that?) by calling the Telephone Claims Center at 1-888-209-8124 for New York State residents (or 1-877-358-5306 for out of state residents) between 8:00am and 5:00pm, Monday through Friday. This is a toll-free call, but really the online site is easy and preferable for everyone.
Am I eligible?

How long does it take to start getting paid?
Once you’ve gone a week without work you can apply for your weekly check via the above link. There is an upaid waiting week after you file so assume you’ll start receiving money about 3 weeks after you’ve stopped working.
I’ve been accepted, when/how often do I submit my weekly claim?
If you want to get paid weekly, you’ve got to submit your claim weekly on the NY labor site here. The first day you can claim for the prior week is Sunday, so make that a part of your Sunday routine along with reading the paper, The405Club.com, catching up on LOST and doing the crosswords. Submitting your claim online takes about 1 minute tops. You’re asked questions whether or not you worked that week, if you denied work that week and if you made over $405/week in other jobs that week. The answers are usually a lot of “no’s” and “0s”. If you are freelancing on the side this gets tricky and involves paperwork signed by your freelancing employer. [Freelancers, please help with this section. *UPDATE NEEDED* Some infohere.]
How much do I get per week as an unemployed New Yorker?
The current max is $405/week now that The Great Recession Stimulus Package extension has eliminated the stimulus of $25/week post-tax. Very few elect to have their taxes taken out prior to receiving the checks because let’s be honest, right now you need all the money you can get. Some will also calculate their weekly rate using an alternate base period or calculate using their previous average weekly wage: click here to find out more about that.
How many weeks can I get Unemployment Benefit Checks?
Please consult of the Department of Labor for the latest information on extended benefits.
Can I get my check directly deposited right into my bank account?
Yes. In fact, we recommend this. Some have been hit with fees by NOT using direct deposit. It’s easy to set up and definitely the fastest way to get your $.
